Clerkenwell is not like any other furniture fair. There is no hall where you spend the whole day walking up and down the aisles. It is a place where showrooms open their doors, organize talks, shows, demonstrations and parties.
Having a great weather this year, it truly felt like a festival. From the biggest names in the industry to the small, independent designers, you can find many inspiring pieces. As you follow the pink line, you get into narrow alleyways and unusual spaces. Our favourite was a venue just under the school, an old jail. Walking through the cells, you discover quirky designers showcasing their work.
Even though there isn’t a main stage, there are a few specified areas. Design Fields tent had a lot of European factories exhibiting their latest collections, while Platform introduced some of the world’s most up-and-coming design talents. It was interesting going through Fabric club during the day and seeing some amazing light installations. Our must-see was the British Collection. We love seeing talented British designers and manufacturers, making their mark on (not just the) furniture world and being able to influence future trends.
We love coming to Clerkenwell and getting inspired. It’s not just about tables and chairs, it’s quirky, fun, artsy and very creative. And we love how music, art and design influences not just us at the Furniture Fusion office, but everyone at Clerkenwell Design Week. See you next year!
