It is always exciting stepping off the plane in Milan, waiting to see what’s new in the contract furniture world. This year we came back filled with ideas and inspiration for our future projects and here are our top picks and highlights.
The trend that started a few years ago is growing and we love the slim steel in a variety of metallic colours. Designers played with the cold material, wrapping it around back of seats, exposing the metal and combining it perfectly with velvets and leathers, as well as using it with marble on tables.
Forget your vintage bentwood chairs, bentwood of 2019 is soft, sexy and complements the soft upholstery perfectly.
From pastels to wild prints, Milan had it all. We especially noticed pastel colours on the wood and mixed in with the bentwood design of the chairs, the result is soft, elegant, yet trendy and long lasting. When it comes to prints, they go well with tubular metal or mixed with a single colour fabric in split upholstery.
Weaves and ropes
New trend alert – whether it’s the seat, back, or both, weaves and ropes are on the rise, offering a more relaxed feel to the contract dining. Adding colour creates some very interesting pieces.
The trend has been here for a while and we have spotted a slight innovation – the Nordic feeling is still prevalent, but with added colours and softer curves, creating a beautiful step forward in furniture design.
