January is finally behind us but spring still feels like a long way off - in need of a spot of winter sun? Read on for our pick of a few design-led destinations which should be on your shortlist.

First stop is a hop across the pond to Miami’s South Beach, and a stay at a true Art Deco icon. Following a $100m renovation, The Shelborne By Proper has reopened, transformed into a luxury resort you’ll never want to leave.

Outside, enjoy private beach access and a palm-framed pool complete with a restored 1950s diving board. Insider, it’s all cool neutrals and ice cream shades of pastels - mint green, butter yellow and vanilla white are the perfect foil to the turquoise blue sea and azure sky outside.

If money’s no object choose the oceanfront penthouse or two bedroom terrace suite with cool sofas for outdoor lounging while you enjoy views across Miami.

The Theo chair in solid ash work well in the dining area of this Shelborne suite - the three-legged design is stylish and a little quirky, adding a cool touch to a contemporary hotel suite, bar or restaurant. 

If you like your beach break a little closer to nature, head to Mexico’s Pacific coastline where you’ll find the Hotelito MUSA on a 177 acre plot of unspoilt seaside beauty. With just 13 oceanfront rooms, it promises peace and a slower pace of life - easy to achieve if you check into the penthouse suite where you can watch the sun drop into the sea from bed, bath, or a relaxed spot on your spacious terrace.

Calm neutrals are set against lots of natural timber and warm wood, with rattan and linen in the mix - no need for anything more when you have a backdrop of lush vegetation and crashing waves.

Our Griante woven armchair would fi t perfectly in this laidback luxe hotel - suitable for use inside and outdoors, it features an FSC®-certified Iroko wood frame with turned cylindrical legs and an aluminium structure supporting the seat. 

If you’re happy to go a little further afield, you’ll find plenty of winter sun in the southern hemisphere - and if you can wait just a little longer, you can be one of the first guests to discover The Homestead - an ultra-luxury eco-lodge on the Nambiti Private Game Reserve in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal region.

This new safari lodge is built from local ironstone and the roof is planted with indigenous grasses, allowing The Homestead to settle effortlessly into the natural environment. The Homestead will get you closer to the big five, with the chance to spot over 50 protected mammal species and over 300 bird species - but don’t think that this means a classic safari style interior as this lodge is a little different. From the in-house restaurant to the individual suites, expect bold colours, statement shapes, layered textures and luxury finishes.

For sun all year round, Oman is a favourite destination. Enjoy some respite from the soaring temperatures with an escape to the fabled Green Mountain, where you can relax in a cooler climate while enjoying elevated luxury and dramatic canyon views at one of the world’s highest resorts.

You’ll want to make the most of this breath taking setting, so be sure to book a room with a terrace, letting you relax and enjoy the mountain views or indulge in some stargazing at night.
