Milan Furniture Fair 2025: Highlights & Top Trends

Spring’s here which means only one thing for the furniture world - time for Salone del Mobile, the Milan Furniture Fair. The northern Italian city is synonymous with style and home to a week of events and exhibitions designed to showcase the best of this exciting sector.

Now in its 63rd year, the fair attracted over 2100 exhibitors and more than 300,000 attendees this year, including members of the Furniture Fusion team. As always, there was a real diversity of design featured across the exhibitors’ stands, but we spotted some trends which we’re sure to see in commercial interiors over the coming months and years.

Colour is always one of the big stories from Milan, and this year’s standout shades ranged from creamy cappuccino and lattes (inspired by Italy’s café culture, or Pantone colour of the year, Mocha Mousse) to earth tones, ochre and terracotta.

These relaxed tones work well in hotels, bars, restaurants and even for outdoor spaces - we’re sure to be using these shades for upholstery and finishes in future projects.

The Padova lounge chair looks great in a soft brick colour - the lounge chair’s distinctive shape means that contrasting fabrics can be used to add interest and texture, but we also love the colour blocking option shown here.

The Lamorisse collection is available in a range of colourways, with options suitable for use inside and outside. The stylish Lamorisse outdoor sofa looks great in this terracotta fabric, or choose a pale neutral for the seat and back cushion upholstery to contrast with the earth-toned finish of the frame, seen here in the Lamorisse outdoor armchair.

We’re already big fans of this warm and welcoming colour palette - used in our recent project at Babbo Restaurant in St John’s Wood, London. Studio du Feu’s design for the space is really special and brings together deep red upholstery with natural tones and warm wood. It’s an interior which won over restaurant critic Giles Coren and sets just the right note for this relaxed neighbourhood restaurant.

Texture was another key trend in Milan this month - bouclé is still big and we spotted super-shaggy faux fur upholstery on one of our favourite pieces, the Ila lounge chair.

While we’re not expecting a hotel, restaurant or bar to specify seating entirely in this fun fabric, it’s a reminder that mixing things up with a range of fabrics and finishes can work so well in adding interest to an interior. Our stand at HIX London showcased bespoke furniture and other pieces from our collection and used textured fabric, bouclé, leather, natural wood and cork.

Perhaps it’s not surprising that at this time of year, nature should play a big part in inspiring design at the Milan Furniture Fair. From furniture trimmed with leather pieces to create an effect reminiscent of bird feathers to 3D printed giant orchids and pebble-shaped seating, there were hints of nature everywhere with many designers crediting flora and fauna with inspiring their work.

Our own collection includes some pieces with a hint of biophilic design - like the Mentha collection which has a clear visual connection to the natural world. Each of the pieces shares sleek harmonious lines, a leaf-shaped backrest and is made using sustainable materials - certified recycled plastic, a progressively evolved material.

Taking inspiration from the poppy, the Papoula lounge chair is an eye-catching piece with undulating, petal-like curves. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the ergonomic design makes this a super-comfortable and stylish seating option for hotels, bars, lounges and other commercial interiors.

Last year’s fair celebrated cushioned curves, and it seems that the desire for super-comfortable chairs and sofas is here to stay, with Dezeen highlighting the trend for ‘swollen seating’ at this year’s event. Faye Toogood’s collection for Tacchini included super-sized, super-squashy sofas, inspired by pillowy dough and oozing melted butter - the sort of sofa to sink into for cosy evenings at home.

Our collection includes several pieces which feature voluminous padding and exaggerated outlines, from the Bros sofa and oversized armchair to the Area collection of sofas, footstools and lounge chairs.

Like Toogood’s design, many of our super-sized sofas are available as modular pieces, making it easy to create something to perfectly suit your space. This was another key trend at Milan, with Hem’s modular Great Sofa installed two-deep along a full wall to create what was basically a giant mattress.

Whether you choose clean lines and angles or soft shapes and squashy cushions, our range of modular sofas is designed to give you a versatile piece to suit any project. Easily reconfigurable, our modular sofas can adapt to different layouts and are ideal for hotels, guest lounges and co-working spaces.

The Sushi modular sofa is available in endless combinations, with options to upholster each section in a different fabric if you wish.

The Ivy modular collection has a sleek, mid-century feel which works perfectly in contemporary office interiors or educational settings. Finish with a range of customisable elements including backrests, armrests and integrated tables. Modular seating doesn’t have to be kept for inside projects - our collection includes modular seating that’s suitable for use outdoors, all year round.

The Enjoy modular system features a techno-polymer frame and wide cushions, with components — seats, backrests, armrests and tops — which can be easily connected. The options for customisation are endless and it’s designed to be easy to move, making this a practical choice for an outside terrace while also looking great.
